Biggest Fire in CEBU this year

Share
Yesterday, in Cebu City the biggest fire this year hit the city. More than 250 families or more lost their homes. No one was killed in the disaster but there are reports of cuts and bruises during the evacuation and when people are trying to save their belongings.

Firefighters from Mandaue City, Lapu-Lapu City, Talisay City, Liloan, Minglanilla and Consolacion, the Filipino-Chinese Fire Brigade, ERUF, AFP Central Command and some volunteers help stop the raging fire yesterday.

Supt. Esmael Codilla, Cebu City Fire marshal, said reports that they are still checking where the fire started. He, however, said that they are looking into allegations that the fire started the three-storey house of Rosemarie Rizol, a city hall employee.

According to Merla Lavides, one of the volunteers in the area, one of Rizol's boarders occupying the third floor allegedly cooked something using rubber to fuel the fire, which triggered the blaze.
Rizol, who was at work when the fire broke out, denied the report saying she is no longer renting out rooms.

Check out the photos below during the fire outbreak yesterday August 9, 2010 around 12:00PM - 4:00PM. Heavy smoke cover the sky of Barangay T. Padilla, F. Villa Pvt. Road.

The Aftermath, August 10, 2010 12:00PM - 4:00PM. Homeless families stayed in the Kiwanis Gym, some in the street of M.J. Cuenco Ave. others in their burned houses. Electricity and Telephone lines are down. The Government promised to give immediate help to those families who lost their homes and I'm thankful for that because I lost my boarding house, too.

Note: Sorry for the crappy photos. It was only taken from a cellphone.
